Great Moor A 4 v 2 Prestbury  .... Round 1 Stockport Metro Cup

After many games of getting wins and enjoying a good run of form this all came to an end.
Firstly Prestbury started off quite poorly by giving the ball away too cheaply, and allowing
Division 1 leaders Great Moor A to take control of the game. As a result, early on, Great
Moor were enjoying a lot of possession and using it to quite a good effect, particularly when
they got the ball beyond our defence and down the wings, because they had some strong
and fast players that were causing our back four some problems.

As a result it was not long before we conceded a poor goal where the Great Moor player
just walked through 3 of our players and put the ball in the bottom corner. As a result, our
players’ heads went down a bit, and we still carried on playing kick and rush football which
was gifting the ball back to Great Moor. After about 10 minutes of holding Great Moor off
they got their 2nd goal which was again another poor goal to concede. Following on from
that it was not long before we conceded a 3rd goal which again was down to poor marking
with the Great Moor player getting a free header at the back post. Overall a poor first half
performance with 3 poor goals conceded.

In the second half Mike changed the formation and decided to go 3-5-2 and just go for the win.
As a result the lads started to play better football and put Great Moor under a lot more pressure.
Eventually with a free kick and a good ball in the box Josh Rowbotham rose high and headed in
a great goal. From there this gave Prestbury the confidence and the belief that they could go on
and get another goal and about 10 minutes on from the goal, Dan Lloyd got half a chance and
took a shot just outside the box which took a deflection and went in the net. From there both
teams started to battle really hard, and either could have had another goal or two but Prestbury
game the closest by having one cleared of the line, and a great overhead effort by Pat Walker
which the Great Moor keeper did well to save. At the other end Alex made some good saves
to still keep us in the game. But eventually after us gambling and pushing up Great Moor finally
sealed the game with 2 minutes left from a long throw which again was defended poorly.

Overall though it was a very good effort from our lads, but they have to learn that they cannot
give away a three goal lead to a first division team and except to win. However it was nearly a
very good come back, but it was always going to be difficult from 3-0 down.

Droylesden Juniors 1 v 1 Prestbury

At last, something to cheer about, after three months of unplayable pitches, giving postponed matches
and also having to play people out of position, through injuries and absences. A fine day with eleven
players, starting on the field, against a Droylesden side that we should have a shout against.

Having said this we started hesitantly, with a low level of confidence, and allowed Droylesden to come
on to us and we had a number of narrow escapes, before we started to play. In particular, Droylesden
used the little dink ball, over the defence, a great deal, and we were fortunate to have Charles back in
defence, who had the pace to recover and counter the threat. However, we failed to clear our lines,
once too often, after another dink and run and Droylesden bundled the ball over Alex, for a scuffy lead.

Oddly, going behind seemed to encourage us, and, from this point onwards, we had more of the
game and played much better, as a team, with a number of players actively looking for the pass and
then moving forward. Being able to exert some pressure of our own put Droylesden on the back foot,
to some degree, and, after we had gone close, a number of times, Nathan managed to turn in front of
goal, and buried an unstoppable volley to even the score.

For the rest of the match we rode our luck, somewhat, and had more narrow escapes, but managed
to survive and indeed had several more chances, ourselves. However, in the end the score stayed at
1-1 and this was a fair reflection of both team's efforts on the day. Charles was awarded the man of
the match trophy, but in truth this was a much better all round team effort.

Prestbury 1 v 6 Chapel Town Juniors

Depressing game, with speed in defence proving our undoing, as Chapel Town, a good hard-working
side, kippered us, on multiple occasions, for pace, down our right wing. Half-time score 3-0 against
us. For once however, we had a squad with some substitutes, and this allowed us to make some
changes, to try and stiffen up the defence, with fresh legs. However, although we were more successful
in second half open play, we then had two extremely soft penalties awarded against us, and, even when
Chapel Town missed them both, the balance and composure of our team was undermined. From then on
we spent the rest of the match arguing with each other, and the referee, so proving easy for Chapel Town
to pick off and run the score up to 6-0.

Finally, just when we were at our lowest, returning star Sam Black latched on to a ball, in the crowded
penalty area, and drilled a rocket into the net, to raise our spirits.

In view of the arguments and lack of team cohesion, Mike decided not to make any man of the match
award and we will need to look long and hard at ourselves, before the next match.

Prestbury 5 v 6 High Lane Juniors ...... Preliminary Round of the Metro Cup

Another struggle to get eleven players, on the field, with, this time, three First Division players out of our
defensive back five, unavailable, through injury/illness, and the resulting lack of defensive strength showed,
in a very high scoring game with many defensive errors on both sides.

It took us a long time, during the first half, to deal with the opposition's pace, up front, and get going ourselves,
but after High Lane opened the scoring, with a well-worked move, Dan Lloyd started to move up a gear
and regularly get past his markers, on the left and find the net. After some tit-for-tat moves, the first half
finished 3-2 to us, with two goals to Dan and one to Josh Rowbotham.

The second half started brightly, with both sides knowing that the first goal might have a strong bearing on the
eventual outcome. In the event, it fell to us with Dan Lloyd completing his hat-trick, to put us 4-2 up. From then
onwards, our defensive struggles started up again, in earnest, as High Lane surged forward, repeatedly, and
gradually wore our defence down, and the scoreline bounced back and forwards, until with 5 minutes to go,
and the score even at 5-5, High Lane capitalised on another moment of defensive confusion, to take the tie.

All in all, a match for us to forget, and High Lane to savour. We let them back in to the game, when, at our full
strength, they wouldn't have had a look in. Our congratulations to them and they carry our best wishes for the
future rounds. For us it is back to the drawing board, to re-learn how to defend a lead. Our man of the match
award went to Dan Lloyd for his four fine goals.

October 11th, 2009

Prestbury 3 v 4 Stockport Vikings A

A muted cheer, as we managed to get on the field with 11 players. However, both Alex, our goalkeeper, and
Brad, our midfield creator, were carrying serious injuries, so this meant that right-back, Patrick, went in goal and,
in midfield, Brad did the best he could, whilst Alex deputised, outfield, on the left. On a positive note, Tom
Richardson returned for his first match, after many months of lay-off, and it is good to see him back.

The first part of the match consisted of yet another dour struggle, where we rode our luck, at times, and managed
to keep out the Vikings front men, who were very composed, with intricate passing in front of goal, but too often
strayed offside, to waste the chance. Alex lasted 15 minutes of play, replaced by Jack Flynn, and Brad 20 minutes,
so we were down to 10 players, when the first real crisis of the match saw goal-keeper Patrick, after a stiff challenge,
hospitalised with a dislocated shoulder. Playing with 9 players and, now, with centre-back Mike Campbell, in
goal, there was less resistance to Vikings, and fairly soon their passing paid off and they walked in an easy goal.

The second half continued in the same vein, with the speed of Vikings causing repeated difficulty for us up the left wing,
and three more easy goals ensued, before Brad recovered enough, to come on in nets, allowing Mike to help restore
some greater stiffness to the defence. This new formation seemed to help us come back into the game, a little more,
and soon a lofted pass put Dan Lloyd clear to score, from the left. This gave us new heart and, with Vikings bringing
on their remaining substitutes, believing the game to be won, the contest became more even and Dan Lloyd broke
through again, to restore some respectability to the score, at 2-4. After another 10 minutes of pressure, Josh R
managed to turn away, from his markers, on the edge of the box, and scored the goal of the game, a bending,
dipping volley, which was a fitting reward for his lone efforts, up front. The final 5 minutes were more tense, and
although we had chances to take a point, including hitting the bar, it was not to be, and the whistle blew at 3-4.

A match of highs and lows, but with good team spirit shown, in the second half to give us heart, for the future. The
man of the match award went to Josh, for both his goal and his lone striker role, with Brad taking the Clubman's
award. Our thoughts are with Patrick, during his period of recuperation.

Bollington 3 v 3 Prestbury

Bollington were close to their strongest, for this, always keenly contested, local derby, whilst, due again to a long list
of injuries, we could only muster ten players. So it was with a keen sense of foreboding, that we kicked off, uphill.

However, to show what a strange game football can be, our ten men punched above their weight against a Bollington
team who were full of class players, but strangely short of composure, in front of goal. Nevertheless, after a long period
of deadlock, Bollington took the lead with a thumping long-range shot, coming in from the right wing. Instead of just
capitulating, as might be expected, however, Prestbury fought back and, with a long range effort of our own, Jack Flynn
scored his first ever goal to level the scores. Honours even, at half time.

Playing downhill, in the second half, was less of a strain, and soon, in his first match, for us, midfield general, Brad Dobson,
managed to catch the Bollington keeper, off his line, with a lobbed volley, from distance. Not long afterwards, a scrambled
effort, in the goalmouth saw Dan Lloyd, find the net from close in. Being 3-1 up, however, seem to unnerve us, and we
went back into a defensive shell, and Bollington surged forward, attacking in great numbers. When our principal
centre-back, Paul, had to come off, with an injured leg, and we were down to nine players with twenty minutes to go, we
just couldn't keep Bollington out and they scored two good goals, in ten minutes, to even up the scores.

The last fifteen minutes were very tense, indeed, as we fended off what seemed like one continuous attack, and our defence
and goal-keeper/captain Alex had to give 150% to preserve the draw. Apart from one good surge, late on, where we
might have stolen the match, it was one-way traffic and we did well to hold on for the draw.

This was an all-round team performance, but the man of the match award went to Brad, for his creativity, and making the
step up into the First Division seem natural. In addition, Mike Campbell, also playing for us for the first time, in defence,
gave an assured display, and got his head on a number of Bollington crosses, when things were at their tightest. Finally,
Alex again kept us in it, with another string of excellent saves.

So our first point, in the league, and we continue to re-build, but the spirit we showed, today, should give us great heart
for the difficult matches to come. Well done lads !

Prestbury 0 v 5 Great Moor B

A day of mixed fortunes, for us. Good new players, sat on the sidelines, but not yet allowed to play, our principal striker
and left back, both affected by injury, but a welcome return for Josh R, who deputised up front. Great Moor B started
their trademark passing game, well, and most of their team appeared to be several inches taller than when we last saw
them. The early exchanges contained some strong physical encounters and, in one of these, a clash of heads saw our
main centre back, Paul, having to go off the field for 25 minutes. Following his departure, Great Moor ran riot, going
forward, running in 5 goals in twenty minutes, to amass an unassailable lead, into half time.

Following half-time's re-grouping, Paul came back on to the field, and the game, in the second half, was much tighter,
with man of the match, Alex, again pulling off some remarkable saves, to deny Great Moor. However, although we
were defensively stronger, our activity at the other end didn't create much, and their goalkeeper was swiftly off his line
to smother any half chances.

In all, we were again outplayed, this time by a unit with a good passing game, which our team, when at its' strongest,
in previous years, always had trouble with. We must continue to strengthen our team and work on settling them
down into a more cohesive outfit.

Inter Cheadle North 2 v 1 Prestbury

Following last week's sobering encounter, with Poynton, it was with some trepidation, that we travelled to Inter Cheadle's
excellent ground, with only 10 men to field, due to a combination of injuries and prior engagements. However, Inter
were generous in lending us a player they had on trial, to even up the tally, and the match started in bright sunshine.

Again, the early part of the match was similar to the previous week, with Inter pressing forward, using the full width
of a very wide pitch, to expose our full backs with their speedy wingers, and once again, Alex, in goal, kept us in it with
a string of excellent saves. After half an hour of this level of exertion, in hot conditions, we were looking weary, and Inter's
first goal came when our centre backs, missing Paul, didn't challenge, allowing Inter's big, muscular striker, a free header,
from a set piece. Half time, at 1-0, came as a relief and a chance for us to re-group.

After a rest, and the sun going behind the clouds, we started to come into the game a little more, and started to exert some
pressure of our own, with Dan Lloyd again working extremely hard up front. This pressure eventually paid off and after
a shot from Dan Lloyd hit the post, Jonny Parker was on hand to follow up the rebound. Unfortunately, the relief, from
equalising proved too much for us, and we relaxed, quickly allowing Inter a simple pass and run through goal, to reassert
their lead. Nevertheless, once we concentrated, again, the pattern of the game had changed, and we were able to move to
4-4-2, and play more of the game in Inter's half. However, despite this extra attacking pressure, and Alex continuing to
deny Inter, with a further string of superlative saves, we were not able to find a second equaliser, although Dan Lloyd
came close, late on, with a hook shot just past the top left hand corner of the goal.

A more encouraging performance than the previous week, showing us that if we continue to strengthen our team and work
on our passing/positioning, we still have the ability to win some games. However, in both games, so far, we have put too
much pressure on our defence and relied upon excellent goal-keeping performances to keep us in it. As a result of this,
the man of the match award chose itself, going to Alex, in goal.

Prestbury 0 v 3 Poynton Juniors

Our first match, back, after a large number of player departures during the closed season, saw us fielding a scratch team,
made up of a merged Panthers and Pumas team, against a settled good 1st Division team, in Poynton, who now feature
one of our best players, in recent seasons, Beau Gatward, in midfield. Unsurprisingly, our team organisation and positioning
looked like that of a scratch team and we were hard put to keep out a polished Poynton unit. However, although we were
comprehensively outplayed, during the first half, the score remained low at 1-0, after one moment of uncertainty between
defence and goalkeeper left Alex stationary on his line and easily beaten.

The second half continued, much in the same vein, with Poynton surging forward, and Prestbury fending them off. However,
somewhat surprisingly, Poynton didn't manage to capitalise on their superiority, in open play, and it was left to Beau Gatward
to bring Poynton home with two set-piece goals, the first an excellent fizzing free kick, from the edge of the box, and the
second from a rather generous penalty, after some jostling about in the box.

A few positives emerged from the game, man of the match, Paul, at centre back, had an excellent first game for us, Alex, in
goal, made multiple first-class saves and our new captain, Dan Lloyd, worked himself into the ground, without much
support, having only one real chance, throughout the match. Although it is still early days, this game proved that we have a
long way to go before we are able, once again, to challenge teams such as Poynton, at this level.

Nothing to be said, except simply outplayed.

Prestbury 2 v 4 Wilmslow

Prestbury welcomed the new league champions, Wilmslow to there last game looking to end there season undefeated. After the last two games between the teams a good close game was expected.
Prestbury struck first with a Ben Gray goal which was well taken when the ball came out from a corner and Ben hit first time for 1-0. Wilmslow were stung and came back with an effort over the bar and Alex making a good save. Beau had a free kick cleared off the line by a defenders header.Wilmslow equalized when there was slight hesitation in the defence and the Wilmslow forward nipped in to score for 1-1. Dan Lloyd had a chance that went just wide of the post before a well worked move by Wilmslow down the left flank was slid past Alex for 2-1. A good first half for both teams.

In the second half Wilmslow quickly took the initiative when a long ball over the Prestbury defence was picked up by the striker who took it around Alex before finishing for 3-1. Prestbury had a number of efforts from free kicks that were unfortunate not to convert but Wilmslow struck again for 4 -1 and the game was all but over. Dan Lloyd had different ideas though and when he found himself in space in the Wilmslow half he chipped the keeper from distance for 4 -2. Wilmslow again countered and hit the post and Ben Gray narrowly missed, putting the ball wide towards the end. At the final whistle Wilmslow celebrated there tremendous success of being unbeaten in the league and we applaud there effort and football.

Prestbury after a helter skelter season have one game left to pick up points and can look forward to next season with the same enthusiasm and determination and perhaps some glory. Come on Boys!

Prestbury 7 v 2 Signol

We beat Signol this weekend 7-2 and with only 10 men, the team work hard for the whole game and got themselves in a comfortable lead of 4-0 by half time, some good football was played and nice to see plenty of goals, midfield worked hard up and down the pitch and the back four were tight with Lloydy doing what he does best up front, he nicked four goals today with Beau scoring a nice bending shot into the far corner and Tom Ritchie and Sam Oakes scoring as well. We tired towards the end when we conceded 2 late goals but the lads were fantastic especially on a warm day a very hard pitch and 1 man down, great result and performance boys.

Reddish Vulcans 7 v 2 Prestbury

Prestbury heaviest defeat ever, a day after April’s fool thankfully, and our first 2009 evening k.o.

However in the boys defence a few facts that need stating. With only 10 players available the boys were going to be up against it with the Vulcans still in with a chance of wining the league. Of the 10 players Tom should not have played as he only managed a half game the night before but to his credit stayed the course for the full period despite his difficulty in running. Finally, mention of the game the night before when most of the Prestbury team played in the schools cup final. So overall the odds were against them.

Vulcans took the lead when they turned the Prestbury defence and fired past Alex. Prestbury hit back when Dan ran through and slotted past the keeper. The game was even and Prestbury were working hard. Chances were created by both sides but eventually Vulcans went through the defence again for 2-1 and shortly afterwards a free kick was in the net before Alex saw the ball for 3-1 at half time. Prestbury had put in a good effort and the score could have been closer.

At half time Nigel spelled out to the boys the extra effort and challenges required  to stay in the game but in the second period Prestbury floundered and Vulcans took all their chances coasting into a 7-1 lead with Alex making a great finger tip save onto the bar at one point. The loss of a player was telling and there were many tired legs. Sam Oates scored a consolation goal towards the end for a final score of 7-2.

A game all the boys can learn from despite the difficulties as to being first to the ball, keep playing as hard as you can and never give up. Not much more to say, lets move onto the next game!

Curzon Ashton 0 v 4 Prestbury

With the clocks going forward an hour would all the boys remember to turn up? Yes!

With the end of the season looming our first visit to Curzon and the boys opportunity to put together a decent and consistent run of results.

Prestbury started well and Dan forced the keeper to an early save when through on goal. Ellliot hit the bar with a header from a Beau corner and it looked odds on that there may be a few goals to be had.

Prestbury continued top dominate, passing the ball around and looking to create chances with Dan looking dangerous up front and Josh had an effort just wide of the post.

The opening goal eventually came from a Tom Ritchie throw in which Beau carried into the penalty area and fired home for 1-0.

Further chances fell to Dan, Owen and Ben who were unlucky not to score with Prestbury well on top.

Curzon created a chance just before half time when the defence did not pick up at the far post but the Curzon player hit over the bar and at half time Prestbury were only   1-0 up.

The second goal came quickly after half time when Beau side passed to Elliot in the box who shot low past the keeper for 2-0. Ben Gray added a 3rd when he cut in from the left and fired home across the keeper.

Alex tipped a Curzon shot away but was under little pressure for most of the game.

Sam Black up in the box for a corner was dragged down as he went for the ball and the ref awarded a penalty but unfortunately was not converted and the bar is still vibrating from the shot.

Josh scored the final goal when he went down the right side and his well hit shot/cross? found the back of the net for 4-0.

Prestbury should have scored more goals but a good team performance on the day. M.O.M. went to Ben Gray and Clubman’s to Owen.

Prestbury 4 v 1 Stockport Vikings

After a good performance last week could the boys repeat it again?

The game started and immediately Prestbury were playing the ball around and looking for chances. Beau had a couple of efforts and Owen went close with a free kick over the bar. Stockport reacted and Alex made a great point blank save with the forward threatening and followed up to stop again. The first half ended evenly balanced on the play at 0-0.

In the 2 nd half Prestbury pressured again and Elliot shot just wide in the first few minutes. The breakthrough came from a free kick which hit the post and the scramble was headed in by Beau. Stockport hit back with a great free kick from distance that was in the net before Alex could move for 1-1.

Prestbury took the game back however and good chances were created for Ben, Beau and Elliot with Dan looking to poach any loose balls.

A Ben Gray shot was saved by the keeper and Beau from the corner found Owen at the far post for 2-1.

Dan secured the 3rd when he latched onto a ball over the defence and lobbed the oncoming keeper for 3-1.

Beau scored his 2nd and the Prestbury 4th when another free kick was pushed onto the bar and as Sam Black followed up Beau was on hand to finish off for a final result of     4 -1.

M.O.M was awarded to Owen for his all round contribution and clubman’s went to Charles who had a good solid game in defence.

Good game boys now let’s keep playing football to get the results.

Gt Moor A 0 v 2 Prestbury

With the Prestbury supporters wondering which team would turn up today this was soon answered by the boys.

Ben Gray won the ball on the left wing and cut into the box forcing the keeper to save but the resultant loose ball was wonderfully converted by Dan Lloyd with an acrobatic over head kick for 1-0 and the boys looked in charge.

A few minutes later Prestbury back on the attack and as Beau took the ball between two defenders he was brought down and the ref. pointed to the penalty spot. The penalty was well converted by Owen for 2-0.

Gt. Moor had to come at Prestbury and the game was competitive but Prestbury were creating chances and had a few opportunities. The midfield and defence held their positions well and Alex in goal had little to do in the first half.

The 2nd half was played in much the same tempo. with Prestbury creating chances and  Gt. Moor looking to pull a goal back but not really troubling the defence and probably one of Alex’s quietest games.

The final result of 2-0 was a fair reflection on the game which was won in the first period. A good team effort and performance which was acknowledged by Mike voting the whole team as match winners.

Well done boys!

March 8th 2009

Prestbury 1 v 3 Bollington

After the last few performances another chance to show improvement. The game started at a high tempo. and Prestbury took an early lead when a short corner was crossed to the back post and Elliot headed home.

As expected Bolly played through the middle and despite repeated instructions to go wide our midfield decided also to play down the middle which resulted in a crowded area. Prestbury had an early edge but this was pulled back when Bolly were awarded a penalty for an unnecessary push in the box when there was no real threat. Bolly scored for 1-1 and shortly afterwards followed up when the ball was again not cleared in the box and was slotted home for 2-1 to Bolly.

Prestbury created chances for Dan, Elliot and Ben but were not able to convert.

In the 2 nd half Prestbury again created a few chances but were unable to score. Bolly equally were looking threatening with a number of chances. Alex made a good save to tip away a shot and from a Prestbury free kick Dan hit over the bar.

Bolly hit the post and continued to dominate the midfield and a second penalty was awarded but fortunately for Prestbury Bolly hit the post and the ball was cleared.

However Prestbury’s luck was short lived as Bolly scored a 3rd goal as Prestbury pressed forward and were caught out at the back for a final score of 3-1.

Overall Prestbury created a number of chances but did not use the width of the pitch to their advantage and paid the price. Bollington probably deserved the result but a lesson for the boys in tactical awareness.

Come on boys you can play football at a better level than this.

Gt Moor B 3 v 3 Prestbury

A Wembley fixture saw a temporary change in management for the day with Stuart taking the reigns. The boys were well prepared with a good warm up and determined to make up for their recent mixed performances.

Prestbury started really well, knocking the ball around and putting Gt. Moor under pressure. A number of chances were created but not taken. Dan had a couple of shots and Beau had a certain goal cleared off the line. Ben Gray had a few chances as well as Elliot. The first half somehow finished 0-0 and Alex had not had to make a save with Prestbury in control through out if not scoring.

This changed within minutes of the second half when a cross field ball from Elliot was controlled by a back heel from Sam Oates and he fired home a long range shot into the far corner.

Sam Black in the box for a corner hit home a well deserved goal for 2-0.

Prestbury made it 3-0 when a Ben Gray effort was pushed out by the keeper and Dan Lloyd followed up to hit it home.

The game should have been over as Prestbury continued to dominate in all areas but Gt. Moor fought back in the last 15 mins. The first came from the right hand side and a long range effort found the net over Alex’s head. Gt. Moor made it 3-2 from a breakaway with the defence caught out. Prestbury were now on the back foot and Gt. Moor’s confidence lifted and as the defence hesitated Gt. Moor equalised.

A disappointing result after a good performance but perhaps another building block for the next game. Well done boys even if the result did not reflect your efforts.

Delamere 4 v 3 Prestbury

‘Welcome to the Prestbury Roller coaster’. After a reasonable assumption that some sort of form may be returning to the team this game proved that there is still work to be done.

The final score does not reflect the game overall in which Delamere were dominant and should have scored more except for a number of fine saves by Alex and the intervention of the cross bar on a couple of occasions.

The defence was found wanting for the first goal looking at each other when Delamere opened up the left hand side for 1-0. Prestbury were soon 2-0 down when the ball was lost in midfield and Delamere finished off.

Tom Ritchie hit home a great volley for 2-1 and Sam Oates finished well over the advancing keeper for 2-2 at half time.

The second half saw Prestbury again at sixes and sevens and being pulled all over the pitch losing formation and understanding. Delamere having had the majority of the possession scored a cracking 3 rd goal with a shot into the top corner that gave Alex no chance and on the day a deserved victory.

A disappointing display from Prestbury and a game to forget but let’s hope lessons were learnt by all.

M.O.M. was awarded to Beau.

Prestbury 1 v 1 Poynton

After a few wet days again there was some doubt if the game would be played but although the pitch was heavy the game was on, this despite reports of a few stray cows on the pitch earlier and with thanks to Mike Walker for his efforts removing the ‘pats’ with bucket and shovel. Bet he has some great roses this year.

Prestbury were caught out early when a long throw was touched on in the box and it seemed to take an age for the ball to roll slowly into the net as both teams watched.1-0 to Ponyton.

Prestbury came back and created a few chances, Josh had an effort just past the post from a corner, Elliot had a chance well blocked by the keeper and Dan put one over the bar as the ball bobbled as he shot.

Poynton were catching out the defence with through balls and put one past the post and Alex made a great save, pushing the ball around the post when Poynton looked like scoring.

Game was 50 / 50 on chances and being well contested, 1-0 at half time.

Second half saw Prestbury continue to put on the pressure but no clear chances.

Alex made another great save when the Poynton forward went around him but he was up quickly and blocked the shot.

With the Poynton forward again through, Alex stayed on his feet to tackle and was unfortunate to have a penalty awarded against him. The penalty was missed and as far as Prestbury were concerned justice was served.

Prestbury came back with the best move of the game when following some great passing Beau crossed to Elliot in the box but unfortunately the chance was missed.

The equaliser finally came when a shot from Elliot somehow found its way past the Poynton keeper.

Poynton pushed in the last few minutes and only a fine finger tip save onto the bar from Alex prevented a Poynton victory.

M.O.M. went to Alex for some great saves and Clubman’s went to Pat Walker for a solid display in defence.

A much better performance from Prestbury and a fair result on a heavy pitch.

Bollington 2 v 0 Prestbury

After last weeks game expectations and hopes were high of a similar performance, however and unfortunately only 1 word can summarise the actual performance, DIRE.

This takes nothing away from Bollington who deserved the result, played the better football and outplayed Prestbury particularly in the first half.

Bollington scored both goals in the first half and could have had more with Prestbury second to the ball and unable to put passes together.

Prestbury improved in the 2nd half although Alex in goal still had to make a couple of good saves.

Elliot forced the Bollington keeper into a low save in the corner and also hit the bar with a shot but there was little else to trouble the keeper.

Ben Gray was awarded clubman’s for a good second half when moving into defence and M.O.M. went to Sam Black for trying to drive the game forward.

Come on boys we know you can all play better than this, let’s make it happen. Enough said!

Prestbury 4 v 5 Wilmslow (After E.T.) Metro Cup

What a great game even if the final result was not in our favour.

A typical cup game with great team spirit, effort, passion and some feisty play in between from both teams and played at a frantic pace throughout.

Prestbury did not start well and found themselves 3-0 down after only 20 mins. Three well taken goals from Wilmslow and Alex being forced

to make some good saves.

Wilmslow may have thought it was all over but Prestbury did not and the boys rolled their sleeves up and took up the challenge, to their great credit.

Dan hit back first with a goal following a free kick into the box for 3-1.

Ben Gray then scored following a good run down the right flank and firing under the keeper for 3-2 on the stroke of half time and the game was back on.

The second half started very tight in midfield with some great battles but it was Wilmslow who broke first and a ball played into the box was converted for 4-2 and once again Prestbury had to dig deep and they did!

After some good play in the midfield Ben Gray held the ball up before releasing to Dan who slotted home for 4-3 and all again to play for.

Prestbury now pushing forward for the equaliser resulted in a mass scramble in the Wilmslow box and Beau eventually got his foot to the ball for 4-4.

Chances were created at both ends as the winning goal was sought and some fine defending and missed chances from both teams led to extra time.

Extra time was played at the same frantic pace with the heavy pitch now telling on tired legs and it was Wilmslow who scored in the first period with a corner to the near post that was hit home for 5-4.

Despite valiant efforts and some last minute chances to take the game to penalties, the boys could not score and the final whistle was met with relief from Wilmslow and disappointment from Prestbury.

All the team should be proud of their determination and efforts. There were fine performances all around the team and every player deserves a mention as we only seem to mention the goal scorers but it is the overall team effort that counts.

M.O.M went to Sam Black who through his own determination and effort frustrated the Wilmslow forwards on every occasion and was colossal. Tom Ritchie was awarded Clubman’s for his versatility in switching roles before reverting to defence.

Hard Luck boys on the result but an outstanding performance to come back so strongly and with an attitude that needs to continue to the end of the season.

Good luck to Wilmslow and well done to the ref for managing to keep control in the heat of the moment and excitement.

If this game had been televised it would be constantly replayed as a cup classic and deservedly so.

Prestbury 7 v 3 Delamere

The last competitive game before the Xmas break and a reasonable if cold morning.

Prestbury, unusually, started well and took and early lead when Elliot found the bottom corner after 5 mins.

Owen then put Josh through who lifted the ball over the keeper and into the top corner for 2-0.

Delamere came back fighting and were looking dangerous on the break and this led to a goal when the Delamere stricker struck home past Alex for 2-1.

Both teams were creating chances but it was Prestbury who extended the lead when Ben Gray turned his defender and hit home low in the bottom corner for 3-1.

Delamere continued to apply pressure and once again a through ball was picked up by the Delamere forward who scored to pull back to 3-2.

Nathan cleared the ball off the line as Delamere pressed for an equaliser and Dan went close with a shot over the bar and a few minutes later had an effort cleared off the line himself.

His continued persistence was repaid however when he headed home a crossed ball for 4-2 and Jake then found Dan again in space and he took the ball around the keeper for 5-2.

Ben Gray tested the keeper with a shot which was pushed out and the keeper reacted well to block Tom’s shot who was following up.

A good first half from Prestbury but Delamere were testing in all areas and competing well.

Second half began with Delamere forcing Alex into making a number of good saves, but Prestbury added to the score when Dan chipped the keeper and although the ball was going wide Ben Gray was on hand to follow up and tap home for 6-2.

A number of good efforts from both sides as chances were created and Delamere scored with a shot over Alex to put the score at 6-3.

Prestbury were passing the ball around well and Dan scored again after a good build up put him on a one to one with the keeper for a final score of 7-3.

Mention must go to the Delamere team who despite the final score continued to play football with great team spirit.

This was reflected in the fact that Alex was awarded Clubman’s for some fine saves and M.O.M went to Dan for his fine finishing.

Lets look forward to a great 2009.

Prestbury 7 v 2 Curzon Ashton

A foggy Sunday morning but visibility on the pitch was fine with a slightly delayed kick off.

Curzon had a great start when a first minute corner crossed the goal line for 1-0 and a wake up call for the boys!
The lead did not last long and a through ball from Elliot to Dan Lloyd was slotted past the keeper for 1-1.
Prestbury took the lead when Ben Gray held the ball up on the flank and crossed to Sam Oates who controlled
first time and touched onto Dan again who finished the move in the bottom corner. Great play for 2-1.
Alex in the goal had to stay alert on a cold morning and made a point blank save with Curzon bearing down on goal.
A Prestbury corner was flicked on by Owen and Sam Oates headed home for 3-1.
Elliot fired in a long range effort which was parried by the Curzon keeper and Dan tapped home for his hat trick and 4-1.
Another Prestbury corner was finished off by Sam Oates again for 5-1 at half time and a good recovery from the
boys after a shaky start but Curzon still chasing down and challenging for every ball.

The second half started with chances for both sides and Prestbury were passing the ball around.
Curzon hit back with a shot over Alex from outside the box for 5-2.
Elliot fired in another shot from distance which found the bottom corner for 6-2.
A fine serious of saves by the Curzon keeper followed when he made 4 great reflex saves in the box and denied
another Prestbury goal. Ben Gray was unfortunate not to score with some great play but the Curzon keeper was holding out.
Alex was called upon to make a finger tip save over the bar from a Curzon effort which was great concentration after he had
little to deal with. Pat Walker hit a shot from outside the box which the keeper parried but straight to the ever busy
Dan who was sniffing around again to tap home for his 4th goal and a final score of 7-2.
Dan Lloyd was awarded M.O.M for 4 great strikers’ goals. Clubman’s was awarded to Charles Truswell who was kept
busy in the defence but marshalled them well and kept Curzon at distance.

A good result for Prestbury and a good all round squad performance. Well done to Curzon
who kept playing to the end despite the score line.

Metro Cup Round 1

Ladybridge Park 2 v 5 Prestbury

A delayed 11.00am start due to the wet weather.
Prestbury had some early chances from Jake and Ben Gray and the wind was playing its own part in the game blowing down the pitch and pushing the ball back.

Ladybridge could have taken the lead breaking through the defence but both teams were not finishing their chances.

The game was scrappy but the weather and heavy pitch was mainly to blame.

First goal came when Elliot hit a fine shot from outside the box and over the keeper for 1-0.

A few minutes later a Jake shot was parried by the keeper but the ball carried on towards the goal and Sam Oates followed up to ensure it crossed the line. A goal Sam and Jake can decide upon. 2 -0 at half time.

In the second half Ladybridge had a chance but fortunately an air shot assisted Prestbury to maintain the advantage. Mike made a few substitutions in order to help the players on the side to warm up. Elliot played a ball through to Dan Lloyd which the keeper saved but another through ball found Josh in space and he put the ball beyond the reach of the advancing keeper for 3-0.

Elliot hit the bar with a chip over the keeper and Dan again forced the keeper to make a point blank save. Ben Gary eventually put the game beyond a Ladybridge recovery for 4-0.

Ladybridge may have been 4 down but as the Prestbury defence relaxed a ball across the box was watched by all and hit home for 4-1. Prestbury scored again when Dan battled in the box for the ball which came out to Josh to score his second goal for 5-1.

Ladybridge again came back and scored a consolation second goal for a final score of 5-2.

In spite of the conditions the game was played in a good spirit and Ladybridge could have made the score closer if they had finished their chances. Prestbury need to concentrate and work hard for the whole of the game.

Clubman’s was awarded to Charles in defence who battled away all the game and not just against the weather. M.O.M. went to Elliot for his for vision and assist in the goals.

Wilmslow 5 v 3 Prestbury

A real stormy morning with heavy rain and wind before the kick off but fortunately improving before the game commenced.

For the first time Prestbury had a squad of 15 and it is good to see Dan and Ben Gray back for selection after injuries.
With Mike being away Nigel stepped up to the bridge and had the team highly motivated for the game.

Prestbury started well and applied some early pressure to the Wilmslow defence.

Wilmslow steadied themselves and came back strongly forcing Alex into making a good save low to his right.
More pressure was applied with Wilmslow moving the ball around and two good efforts went just wide of the Prestbury goal.

Prestbury took the lead when Josh converted an excellent goal chipping the keeper after winning the ball.

Within minutes Prestbury went two up when Sam Oates found himself through on the keeper and slipped the ball around him for a cool finish.

Wilmslow were rocked and applied the pressure.
A ball down the wing looked a lost effort but was chased down and crossed into the box to be fired home for 2-1.

Alex was forced to make another good save when coming out and sliding in to hold the ball with Wilmslow looking dangerous with every attack.

The equaliser came from across ball that Alex tipped out, was headed back in and the defence did not clear and somehow found its way into the net.

Prestbury had been pushed back but the game was open and certainly had more goals to come. Both teams trying to take the advantage.

Elliot slipped a ball through to Ben Streets who was unlucky to have the ball cleared off the line.
Wilmslow equally had an effort scrambled off the line following another good save by Alex and Charles followed up with the clearance.

Wilmslow took the lead when a ball in the box should have been dealt with but was followed up and slid past the post for 3-2 at half time.

In the 2nd half Prestbury again started well but the Wilmslow passing game was finding open spaces and creating chances.

Wilmslow went 4-2 up with a fine finish from another good move.

The boys however did not give up and rallied by Nigel fought back.
Ben Gray on as a sub for his come back scored a super long range effort for 4-3 and there was perhaps an opportunity to
push on and equalise.

Wilmslow  however had different ideas and sealed the game when a high cross ball was unfortunately miss timed by Alex and found its way into the net for 5-3.

A competitive game with good football from both sides.
Wilmslow deserved the win with the opportunities created and only kept at bay by Alex.

Prestbury however held there own and could have pinched a share of the points with a bit more luck.

MOM went to Elliot for another determined display in midfield and clubman’s went to Tom Ritchie filling in at left back.

Good to see the full squad available again and lets now move on getting back to our passing game with even more effort and determination and on the winning trail.

Prestbury 1 v 1 Reddish Vulcans

A good Sunday morning for a game of football. Both teams started by testing each other out with no real clear chances created.
The game was well controlled by the referee who was quick to deal with any dissent and explain his decisions.

Reddish were looking threatening from corners and this eventually led to the first goal as the corner was not cleared and the
2nd attempt was headed in for 1-0.

Tom Ritchie forced the keeper to make a low save in the bottom corner but chances were few and far between,
aside from the Reddish corners which were well practised and causing concerns for our defence.

Reddish were holding the game at half time.

Second half started and a Sam Oates free kick was just over the bar.
Alex was looking confident in goal and made a fine save with the forward through on goal and Nathan slid in for
a great block tackle when a goal looked likely.

Prestbury equalised when a ball was played across the Reddish box and Ben Streets finished well with the keeper stranded.

Reddish pushed up to try and re take the lead and Alex again made a finger tip save to push the ball around the post.
Reddish hit the bar with a header from another corner and Prestbury seemed to be riding their luck.

Prestbury fought back and Sam Oates rattled the bar with a shot on the turn with the keeper beaten and was then unlucky
not to score in the last minute when his attempt just went wide.

A good even game overall. Alex was M.O.M for some fine saves to keep the game alive and Sam Oates was Clubman for his efforts in leading the front line and could have had a couple more goals himself.

A fair result on the day and one we can continue to build upon.

Prestbury 3 Gt Moor A 3

A late start this morning due to a referee shortage. Prestbury once again down to a bare 11 due to injuries and absences.
Good to see Beau back after a lay off for an injury. Gt. Moor were on top after only 2 mins from a move down the flank
and the resultant corner was finished off for 1-0. Prestbury still to wake up and were caught napping.
Prestbury gradually started to come back into what was a competitive game all round.
After good work by Jake Perkins persistently challenging for the ball and eventually wining out to cross to the far post
and was finished off by Sam Oates for 1-1.

Prestbury were now back in the game and playing better. Sam Oates cutting in from the wing played the ball low into the box
and Beau slid in for a return goal and 2-1. Gt. Moor struck back from a free kick played into the box, not cleared and the ball
was somehow scrambled into the net for 2-2 at half time.

2 nd half started well for Prestbury and Sam Oates was unlucky to slide the ball around the post and shortly afterwards rattled
the bar with a superb long range effort. Prestbury had the edge and were pressing Gt. Moor back.
The midfield was seeing a constant battle for the ball. Beau sent a shot just over the bar from outside the box.
Gt. Moor however broke the deadlock with one of the few chances Prestbury allowed them. A cross into the box was met
with a good header for 3-2. Prestbury continued to battle back and had Gt. Moor pinned down in their half. Nearing the end
of the game a Sam Oates low corner was perfectly struck home first time by Charles Truswell pushing up from defence.
A well taken goal for 3-3.

A good competitive game throughout and probably a fair result although Prestbury had the percentage of the game and should
have taken their chances.

M.O.M went to Elliot Goodwin for his determination and vision in the midfield and Clubman’s to Sam Oates for a great overall performance.

Well done boys a good performance to build on.

Signol 1 Prestbury 3

This afternoon’s game saw Prestbury return to winning ways, while the boys were not at their best they had the best of the play in both halves.
A good run down the wing from Beau Gatward saw him cross the ball for Sam Oates to score a deserved opening goal.
Prestbury continued to pressure but scored an unfortunate own goal just before half time to bring to close a frustrating first half.

With the introduction of Elliott Goodwin at half time Prestbury continued to press the opposition and eventually were awarded a penalty
which Sam Oates coolly slotted away. Several chances were then missed before Ben Streets finished the scoring with a well taken goal on the break.

I would like to mention Alex Green who  pulled off an excellent one handed save in the second half to redeem himself from Signols goal at the end of the first half.

Man of the match went to Sam Black who on current form must be in for a sack full of trophies at the end of season awards.
Beau Gatward got club mans good to see him back in the team and no coincidence we returned to winning ways.

Poynton 4 – 3 Prestbury

The morning started with some concern that we may have not been able to raise a full team, however we managed a team of 11 with the squad still depleted through injuries and absences.
Prestbury got off to an excellent start with a superb long range shot from Elliot that found the top corner after only 5 mins.
This spurred Poynton on who were finding space around and behind our defence and Alex in goal was being kept busy and made two great point blank saves. Poynton pressure eventually told when a low cross was turned into the net by Sam Black for an undeserved O.G.
Elliot and Ben Gray had a couple of efforts between them but Poynton were looking more dangerous and another ball over our defence was well converted around Alex for 2-1. Poynton continued to create chances but were unable to convert.
The second half started with Sam Oates making the Poynton keeper save well with a good effort. Poynton were still finding space up front and troubling our defence who to their credit were working hard in an unfamiliar line up. Poynton threatened on a number of occasions but could not finish off and Alex was there to deal with.
A mistake in the defence eventually led to a Poynton 3rd goal and it looked all over.
However, the boys lifted their sprits and began to fight back. Tom Ritchie laid the ball back outside the box to Elliot who fired in a low shot for 3-2.
More Prestbury pressure saw Sam fouled in the box and as the ref was about to blow for the penalty Ben Gray slotted the ball into the top corner and the goal was awarded.
The game was now evenly balanced and could have gone either way although Poynton had the edge on creating chances and this told when a scramble in the box was finished off by Poynton for 4-3.
A good fight back from the boys but on the day Poynton probably deserved the win.
Mention must go to Nathan Jackson drafted in at left back who had a great game in the circumstances. M.O.M. went to Elliot for 2 fine goals and overall contribution and Clubman’s went to Sam Black for his efforts and total commitment (as usual for Sam).

Not the best of starts to the season but lets hope it can only get better.

Prestbury 1 Gt Moor B 2

Today was a game of two half's and Prestbury won both, if I had to call it we had 70% of the play, however we failed to finish the chances we had, so have no complains at the end result.

Great Moor scored the goal of the game with a well moved goal with a great finish all be it against the run of play in the first half, to move to half time one nil up.

After telling the boys to up their game the second half started better and to be fair our goal in the first 5 minutes was far from a classic but deserved on balance. From there we continued to pressure but great moor always looked dangerous with Abu looking quality along with Great Moors new left midfield player. We had at least 4 good chances in the second half to take control of the game but were wasteful and paid the price as Great Moor again scored against the run of play this time with a more fortunate goal. As the game ran down we had a clear chance (an open Goal) to level in the last 5 minutes but again failed to convert. Well done Great Moor look forward to next time you deserved the win but next time I will expect my strikers to convert their chances.
Now do me a favour and get results against the top teams in this division I know you can.

Man of the match went to Owen Griffiths who put his foot in, in midfield and club mans went to Tom Richardson who helped out at right back before moving into midfield to help out with our shortage of players at present.

Thanks to the mums of great moor who at least put a smile on my face with their banter as they taunted me every time we missed look forwarded to next time.

Droyslden 3 -  4 Prestbury

Welcome back to the delayed first game of the season.
A kick off time of 12.30 allowed a Sunday morning sleep in on a bright and dry day.
Prestbury were not at full strength with players missing for a variety of reasons but managed a squad of 12
Both sides took a while to settle down and it was evident that this was the first competitive game of the season with a fair bit of kick and run.
Prestbury struck first with a debut goal from Ben Gray tucked away above the goalkeepers reach.
The teams started to settle down and Droylsden made it 1-1 with a well worked goal crossed into the box and finished with a fine header.
Sam Black was working hard in the centre back position as was Tom Ritchie who had converted to right back.
Prestbury searched for a goal and were trying to play the ball around and made it 2-1 when Elliot Goodwin picked himself up in the box to fire home.
Alex Green was also being kept busy in the Prestbury goal and was coming out well to collect the ball before Droyslden could finish.
A well matched first half with Prestbury edging it at 2-1.
A change in formation for the second half saw Prestbury create a number of chances but could not finish off.
Droyslden then broke quickly and a lovely through ball behind our defence saw the scores even at 2-2.
Prestbury were awarded a penalty as Elliot rounded the keeper and was brought down before scoring but unfortunately could not score from the spot.
Prestbury continued to pressure and were rewarded when Sam Oates crossed for Dan Lloyd to put away for 3-2.
A Prestbury corner was cleared by Droyslden, picked up from the centre and well converted by a solo run through our defence for 3-3.
As we know from last season the boys did not give up and continued to press and eventually Patrick Walker scrabbled a goal off the keeper
for 4-3.The last few minutes were played ou
t at a pace as Droyslden tried to once again strike back but the boys held out.

A well matched game and good for the neutrals. Well played both teams for a first outing.

Sam Black was awarded M.O.M for a fine performance as centre back and Elliot Goodwin was Clubman’s for his tenacity and hard work.
